Our Story

You have to find something. Something that anchors you, something that keeps you looking forward. Even on the days when you’re tempted to look back.
– Unknown

I see myself as a ‘creator’ – I bring value, innovation, and light to others as I promote the very real possibility of healing and transformation.

Personal development and growth, has been a continuous process. My desire to seek opportunities to enhance awareness, assess and develop skills, nurture challenges and aspirations will forever be a lifelong journey due to my passion for inquiry.

Recognizing the importance of learning and the right avenues through which I can develop, led me to a seventeen year career in higher education.  Along with my  endeavors to learn and grow as a healthy and whole person, I’ve encountered my share of pain and grief; ultimately leading me on a path of self discovery.

After struggling with multiple levels of trauma from childhood into adulthood and toxic stressors for years; I found myself in dire need of healing, connection, community and empowerment. A feeling of wellbeing and renewed vitality awakened a source of strength, determination and inner wisdom; it became a personal charge, ‘to be responsible for my own healing and wellbeing.’

Today, I embrace new behaviors, living out-loud with authenticity and sincerity, and simply, being.  My personal story shaped who I am today and seeded Breathe Boxes mission.

I became paralyzed by grief as I witnessed my beloved father transition out of this life into the next. At the same time, I was facing a complicated divorce, grieving the loss of a grandparent and younger cousin, and struggling to balance working and parenting two young children.
The heartbreak of losing my dad opened other unhealed wounds from childhood, triggering a wide range of intense emotions and physical reactions. Working through my trauma with mental health professionals, practicing mindfulness, and other wellness practices have made my days lighter and brighter.

"Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world, Today I am wise I am changing myself."

Skye Bird’s Mindful Corner was established, an online marketplace offering tangible tools to help children and their families cultivate mindfulness, engage in meaningful practices, and create spaces for ‘feeling all the feelings.’

2019

I completed a Master’s program in ‘Human Services,’ along with a certification course in ‘Mindfulness and Breathwork Training,’ Mental Health First Aid Training and a certification program in ‘Trauma-Informed Yoga Training’ solely for personal growth. By creating a toolbox of empowerment skills and strategies, I was able to better recognize and understand my own emotions (and others), manage stress and anxiety, and acquire new healthy habits.
Within the past three years, I also facilitated a five-week course, ‘PULSE Check,’ for first year medical students – a wellness framework designed to develop peer support, self-compassion, embrace authenticity, cultivate self-awareness, and stress prevention through intervention mindfulness exercises, tools, and resources.

Breathe Boxes Organization, a 501(c)3 public charity supporting children and families, connecting them with a mental health toolbox - a sensory experience of actionable tools, wellness practices, support and resources to combat the effects of ACEs, trauma and toxic stress.
It is a lifelong journey, but I now know that I hold the power to take care of myself despite unfortunate events. If I can share my strength with others so that they can develop their own recipe for courage, healing and resilience, I will consider my life’s purpose a success.

Today, I'm fulfilling a lifelong dream of creating a space for enhancing wellness, healing and nourishing the human spirit. Having effective skills and resources in an everchanging world, can mean the difference between surviving and thriving.
